Those We Knew in Summer

Those We Knew in Summer

The following project is artwork for Those We Knew in Summer, a novel by my husband, Nicholas DeRosa. The artwork for this novel includes hand lettering and illustration for the cover, typesetting and illustration for the book interior, and several marketing materials for the self published book launch. A festival map was created to guide the reader through the story and to add to the overall experience of the novel. Organic social posts were also designed to reach our target audience on Instagram.

The Bellewood Bounce Music Festival has been an annual summer event for Carlo and his friends for the past eight years. Taking place in their hometown of Clinton, New Jersey the festival attracts fans of the electronic dance music scene from all over the east coast. This year, however, Carlo and his friends seem to be struggling with their coming of age and being stereotypical millennials. Growing up with every opportunity afforded to them, but struggling to capitalize on it, they find themselves depressed and seeking comfort in anything that provides an escape. The festival is their engine of diversion, though they are very aware of the reality that awaits once the music stops and everything comes to an end.
